An Unforgettable Weekend of Roller Skating

Saturday, February 15th

Saturday Afternoon - Hospitality Suite
The vendors were set up with plenty of fantastic attire and memorabilia for skaters. Among them were Freestyle Fashions (an Adrenalin Award Nominee) who carry a large assortment of t-shirts, head gear and embroidered attire. Flint Roller Skating Association came with T-Shirts and skate towels, a must for any true skater that is ready to sweat. And new on the scene was Hezekiah Barnett of the North & South Carolina Freestyle Rollers with "Skate Xpressions". Skate Xpressions are hand made candleholders depicting skaters from different cities in poses that reflect their city's unique skate style.

The skate clubs and organizations came in to join us watching skating videos, playing games, and chatting about our favorite subject - skating.

Saturday Evening
Youth Performance on Skates

Later that evening, a few hours before the main event, the Easy Rollers (ER) and Skatemasters USA were invited to the Elsmere Skating Center to put on a performance for the youth skaters who attended the regular Saturday evening session. "Livin' it Up" by Ja Rule was played and the two groups sprang into action. The Easy Rollers with their step routines and the Skatemasters with their synchronized performance, each group mesmerizing the children as they watched in awe. They witnessed skate moves from different parts of the country right in their home rink. "Mr. Wiggles" (Columbus) stole a young boy's heart as he partnered with him on the skate floor to perform a skating trick. I don't think this young man will ever forget that he had a chance to roll with Mr. Wiggles. The children also learned a lesson about customizing their own roller skates from Big Los. They saw the unique pair of skates that he wears, made from a pair of Nike Pureposites and wanted to know how he made them.

Then it was time for the children to flip the script and show the adults what they could do. DJ "JL" called for the "Booty Call Line Dance". They did it as it was taught to them by Nikki, who was taught to do it Kansas City style by Player Mike. It had been some time since they were shown and some of the moves were lost but they had no problem adding their own creativity to the dance. The Skatemasters and Easy Rollers tried hard to keep in step with the young people but . . . . .hummm, we will leave it at that.

Then it was time for Delaware to put it down for the old timers. Fast Backwards Skate was called by the DJ and the children gathered in their groups, doing the Delaware/Philly/S. Jersey Roll along the inside wall of the floor, backwards, with interlocked arms and hands at a high rate of speed. The snaked it, formed circles, went in and out and of course, took it down. How low can you go? Dimples of ER was very impressed. "I thought our children were good skaters, I wish they could see the kids here in Delaware skate", she exclaimed.

Skatemasters USA and the Easy Rollers watched the children through the duration of one song and then decided to give it a try. Oh boy, that was something to see. Great attempt but they could use a little more speed! It was quite comical and everyone enjoyed spending the evening with the children.

The Main Event
It was 12:00 midnight and everyone was ready to roll. The guest received both a personal and televised welcome as they entered the building. From the DJ booth, Nikki, DJ Wiz, DJ Rob and I gave everyone a warm welcome as they entered the building. Meanwhile G-Man made sure the buffet was ready to feed a hungry crowd.

The skaters were fired up and it was showtime. Cameras were flashing as people took pictures to capture memories of the event.

Essie Desamours of Atlanta was on site to work her magic with the video camera. Look for Essie at future skating events.

Like the Adrenalin Website stated, "It is going to be hot in February" and that was the case indeed. DJ Wiz and DJ Rob put it down in the booth as everyone continued to come in the door. Skaters from Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Maryland, D.C. and other states all came with their Adrenalin pumping.

Player Mike of Kansas City had such a good time,
he couldn't move after the party was over

Some skaters chose to roll on the outside of the rink, others chose to take to the middle, which was alive with action. Just to name a few, Skate Assassins of Virginia, the Chi-town High Rollers, Wizards on Wheels of Philly as well as the smooth styles of Mr. Irv from Philly were there to exhibit their skills.

Last year, we found out through a represent that there is a gentleman that resides in Philadelphia, a motorcycle rider whose skate name is "Mr. Wiggles". What a coincidence that "Mr. Wiggles" of Columbus is also a motorcycle rider. Due to the distance, the two had never met. The Adrenalin Skate Jam changed that. Mr. Wiggles (Philly) and Mr. Wiggles (Columbus) finally met face-to-face. The talked, got to know one another and got their roll on.

Prior to the event, G-Man hosted a 72-hour "Adrenalin Represent" contest. Skaters who logged on to SkateGroove.com and posted a represent that included the phrase "See You at the Adrenalin" were eligible for a prize and their name would be announced at the Adrenalin Skate Jam. The winner, Michael Brown of Kansas City, KS submitted a represent that was pure poetry. His entry was as follows:

In Kansas City we knew there would come a day;
When the Skatemasters would travel half way across the USA.
To join our national skating family for a special event;
And to share the good times with people who we know was heaven sent.
God has blessed every skating group with talented skaters;
Just remember there are no losers, therefore, it should not be no "haters."
No matter where you come from near or far;
It doesn't matter if you come by bus, plane, or either by car.
Black or White, no matter the color of your skin;
May God bless us all, See You At The Adrenalin

Love and Peace
from Skatemasters USA

Michael will receive two complimentary tickets to any skate jam of his choice that is advertised on SkateGroove.com, paid by G-Man and SkateGroove.com.

We must give props to the group that showed in the largest numbers. Columbus Finest on Wheels showed up with more than 25 members and we applaud them for their support. They came adorned in their red outfits and represented during Ohio's Roll Call with their signature "Bounce" skating style.

Raffle Winners
Skate Xpressions by Hez held a raffle where two winners each received a three-foot tall Skate Xpressions candleholder. The raffle winners were Leroy from New Jersey and Donahue a.k.a. The Bodyguard from Atlanta. Each candleholder was handmade and had to weigh at least 30 pounds. How they got them home is yet to tell.

The Announcement
We didn't want to put a damper on the festivities but mother nature put her foot down. The local weather reports called for 12 - 24 inches of snow to hit the Delaware area in the next 12 hours. A decision had to be made. In the interest of the safety of the skaters. The second skate party that was scheduled for Sunday night had to be cancelled. The skaters who drove knew they must depart early.
