Tears for Tee

DETROIT, MI – On the morning of Friday, April 9, we learned that our skate sister, Mrs. Theresa “Tee” Jones, was called home after a year-and-a-half battle with cancer. In the skate world, Tee was a member of the Detroit Rhythmic Rollers, the skate club responsible for the infamous Cruise and Skate onboard Royal Caribbean. It was on Royal’s best ships that we skated and shut down the clubs on the high seas before exploring the sights in places like Jamaica, Bermuda, Barbados and Cozumel. It was at dance halls where we Bopped and stepped Chicago style. It was at the skating rink where we showed off our favorite Halloween costumes and overstuffed ourselves at the lavish buffet table that she prepared for Skate-O-Ween.
Tee was many things to many people: wife, mother, grandmother, friend, auntie, skater, bopper, stepper, cook, skate event coordinator, exercise enthusiast and more. She was an extraordinary woman who touched many people of any age, race, gender, or orientation, from babies to elders. She had a gift for bonding with people and building lasting friendships.
It was an honor to be with her at her last (known) national skating event, 2019’s “Legends in the Sky” where she wore a beautiful black sleeveless dress accenting her prized muscles (complements of workouts at Planet Fitness) and white skates with extended toe stops. She was full of joy as she fellowshipped with fellow seasoned skaters, rolling 30 stories high, in a rotunda with floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows that provided breathtaking views of DC, Maryland and Virginia. How appropriate for someone who is herself, legendary.
Please say a prayer for her family as they mourn the loss of this beautiful soul.
